Nurses for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (NRAS) SIG

This group seek to provide a resource not only to nurses but also to promote the needs of refugees and asylum seekers to the broader community to ensure they receive appropriate care.

This group seeks to provide a forum for nurses who are interested in the plight of refugees and asylum seekers, including those who may work with them or volunteer to assist them. This group would also be beneficial for nurses who work in a variety of clinical settings and who may have intermittent contact with refugees and asylum seekers, for example, schools, emergency departments, local councils, and community health centres as well as general health settings.  Refugees and asylum seekers have usually gone through enormous trauma, physically, psychologically or both, and may have diverse health needs that must be considered within their cultural context. It is hoped that this group will be able to provide a resource not only to nurses but also to promote the needs of refugees and asylum seekers to the broader community to ensure they receive appropriate care.
