Victorian School Nurses 100 Year Anniversary

Nurses SIG plan to celebrate this significant event.
Victorian School Nurses Conference 2013- 100 Years of
School Nursing.
All school nurses are encouraged to keep Saturday 7
September 2013 free for the Victorian School Nurses Conference. It will be held at Brighton Grammar school (Outer
Crescent Brighton). More information to follow.
In
2010 the Victorian School Nurses' S.I.G. released a set of professional
standards as a result of several forums and feedback sessions with the members.
The VSN saw the development of these standards as a critical step in increasing
awareness of the special knowledge and skills required by nurses working in
school settings. Many people - including nurses, other health
professionals, teachers and parents - are unaware of the diverse and
complex roles performed by school nurses. At this launch we were approached by
the ANF to determine if they could be used as a basis to formulate a national
set of professional standards. A great amount of work was done by Elizabeth
Foley from the ANF and Maureen Ward VSN member, to produce these standards.

During the ANF Vic Branch Professional issues in
Practice conference in September, Yvonne Chaperon (Assistant Federal Secretary
ANF) publicly launched the "National School Nurse Professional Practice
Standards". Several of the VSN members as well as our colleagues from the NSW
School Nurse's Assoc., were present for this very important occasion for school
nursing.
