The ANF (Vic Branch) Nurses
for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (NRAS) SIG was formed around five years ago by nurses
working with refugees in community health.
The forum provides opportunities to discuss challenges associated
with refugee health for service providers and the community.
The NRAS executive organises
seminars that are open to those interested in refugee and asylum seeker issues. At the seminars nurses have heard from refugees
who have spoken about their ‘journey' and reflected on the challenges they face
dealing with health services in Australia.
Other speakers have included lawyers, activists and service providers.
The current executive is
seeking new SIG and executive members at the upcoming AGM. Also at the AGM, nurses
working in the field will present on the topic Health, Detention Centres - a social justice dilemma. A guest speaker from ANF (Vic Branch) will
discuss issues concerning NMBA registration requirements for nurses and
midwives. Attendance may be included in your CPD portfolio. RSVP to Carole de
Greenlaw at cdegreenlaw@anfvic.asn.au please include advice on any dietary
requirements.
