Nursing of refugees and immigrants in general practice workshop


This workshop will orient practice nurses to different aspects of the care of culturally and linguistically diverse patients.

The workshop will be presented by Annette Dupont, CALD Health Consultant, General Practice Victoria.

The program topics include:

  • refugee health assessment
  • refugee and immigrant mental health
  • using telephone and onsite interpreters
  • settlement services for refugees and immigrants
  • chronic disease management: diabetes and hepatitis B
  • caring for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) patients.

Learning objectives:

  • to improve the health assessment and care of refugee and immigrant patients
  • to enhance the use of telephone and onsite interpresters in general pratice
  • to increase the awareness of refugee and immigrant setttlement service agencies
  • to gain further knowledge of issues, strategies, resources and local referral services.
