Queensland nurses, midwives and health workers face uncertain times

14 September 2012, 12:20pm

Queensland health workers including nurses and midwives are facing extremely uncertain times with the Newman Liberal National Party planning to cut 2754 jobs from Queensland Health, with 1500 from Queensland Health's 17 regions.

ANF (Vic Branch) supports the Queensland Nurses Union in their fight to retain frontline health care positions including 45 nursing positions at Townsville Hospital which will cut 130 EFT in total from the local community's health services.

Queensland nurses and midwives are in our thoughts as they fight to protect their jobs, the quality of health care in Queensland and to stop the resulting compromise of patient safety.

In addition Queensland unions are currently embroiled in a "thousand day campaign" to defend Queensland workers and communities against the Newman LNP government cutbacks

The Newman cuts are affecting all of Queensland's services, just as Baillieu cuts are threating Victoria's Firefighters and decimating our TAFEs.

ANF members are encouraged to voice their support for their colleagues in Queensland who are facing such uncertain times by posting a message on the Stand for QLD Facebook page
