The Australian Nursing Federation (Vic Branch) is now calling for the submission of abstracts for consideration in the 2012 Professional Issues in Practice Conference.

The 2012 Professional Issues in Practice Conference is themed The Future is Now and will focus on all aspects of nursing and midwifery at the core of our profession.

We are seeking abstracts for 20 minute oral presentations on aspects of nursing and midwifery care that demonstrate a range of clinical, research or managerial practices that enhance professional practice.

Topics of the abstracts may relate to aged and community care, mental health, palliative care, research and nurse education, emergency, neonatal and critical care, primary health care, enrolled nursing, and occupational health and safety in the health care setting.

Submissions that highlight nursing and midwifery theory, and/or case presentations that promote contemporary and innovative practice or optimal patient outcomes will be favourably viewed.

We encourage you to submit an abstract for consideration and share your knowledge and experience with other nursing and midwifery professionals.

Submission closing date: Friday 30 March 2012

Topics to Consider

Topics of interest for people considering submitting an abstract include (but are not limited to):

  • Professional practice - changing roles of registered nurses, midwives, enrolled nurses and personal carers
  • Innovative practice - nursing and midwifery
  • Mental health
  • Aged care nursing
  • Palliative care nursing
  • Nursing research - professional practice or health workforce issues
  • Occupational health and safety in the healthcare setting
  • Neonatal nursing
  • Critical care nursing/Emergency nursing
  • Nurse practitioner initiatives/Advanced practice nursing
  • Maternal and child health nurses
  • Legal and ethical considerations in practice
  • Enrolled nursing practice issues or innovations
  • Enrolled (mothercraft) nursing issues or innovations
  • Guiding and supporting personal care workers in nursing teams
  • School nursing
  • Immunisation nursing

Abstracts

Abstracts are to be 250 words or less and must show evidence of the following criteria:

  • Title
  • Contact details of the author including name/address/contact details - telephone numbers and email address
  • Text: An outline of the presentation or practice initiative together with a statement on why you consider the paper should be considered for presentation and what the paper aims to achieve for care recipients, other health professionals or the health service. Identify clinical outcomes that improve the quality of care for patients and their families.
  • List of audio-visual requirements for the presentation
  • Biography
  • Disclosure of any links to commercial products


Selection Criteria

Abstracts will be considered for selection based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the conference theme
  • Level of originality
  • Evidence of innovative, quality or best practice outcomes

All abstracts must be received by close of business 30 March 2012.
