Bupa Chairman Mr John Conde AO, is also Commonwealth Remuneration Tribunal President, which last month granted Federal MPs a 3 per cent wage increase per annum.
Bupa is offering care workers less than 2 per cent per annum, not even 33 cents an hour before tax, for an experienced and qualified personal care worker.
Bupa Australia is a health and care company which provides health insurance and a range of complementary general insurance and financial services for more than 3 million Australians through the brands HBA, Mutual Community, MBF and ClearView. Bupa Australia purchased 16 aged care facilities in Victoria previously operated by the Amity Group.
Annual revenues for BUPA Australia exceed $1 billion.
Australian Nursing Federation (Victorian Branch) Acting Assistant Secretary Paul Gilbert said: "I am sure that residents of Bupa's aged care facilities would agree that their hard working and dedicated carers deserve at least the wage increase that Bupa's Chairman has granted members of parliament."
"Bupa employees in Victoria are being asked to vote on the agreement next week, however, the Australian Nursing Federation (Victorian Branch) intends to commence an industrial campaign for a better offer coinciding with the vote," Mr Gilbert said.
The industrial action has already been overwhelmingly supported by a ballot of Victorian Bupa care staff.
Bupa operates aged care facilities in Melbourne, Wodonga, Bendigo and Geelong.
