ANF's commitment to graduate nurses

ANF is actively involved in many issues that affect graduate nurses.

ANF provides practice support for new graduates on a range of issues.

• ANF seeks to maintain a level of skill mix on the ward so that graduates have access to experienced staff

• Most wards or units have ANF Job Rep working as nurses, who are able to provide support if you are unsure how the system works, about the hospital structure or employment conditions and feel overwhelmed by your new environment. Call ANF on 9275 9333 to find out who the ANF Job Representative is at your workplace.

• Industrial Organisers are staff members of the ANF who provide services to members in a designated region or group of workplaces. When notified of a dispute or a problem in a workplace, the Organiser may arrange a meeting in an effort to resolve the problem. Matters brought to the attention of an Organiser may include defending members against allegations of poor performance, incorrect payment of award or agreement entitlements (such as salary, penalty rates, long service leave etc.), unfair dismissal or some other breach of the Award or Agreement. You will generally meet your workplace Organiser during your hospital orientation or you can call ANF on 03 9275 9333.

• All full financial members of the ANF are protected by ANF Professional Indemnity Insurance. This protection is essential for all nurses, but particularly vital for new graduates who may be unfamiliar with the internal hospital processes and working conditions, as they start their nursing career.

• The ANF is committed to maintaining a career structure that provides professional recognition for experience and knowledge while providing opportunities for future progression and promotion.
