Healthscope has hit the ground running with proposals to settle EBA negotiations with ANF.
Prior to the expiry of its agreements, Healthscope made an interim wages offer to align its wages structure and put it ahead of the public sector. This included adjusting rates across all Healthscope facilities to ensure equivalent rates of pay across all nursing staff classifications. These adjustments occurred in August 2007.
In addition, Healthscope has committed to matching the wage increases applicable under the first wage increases for public sector nurses. The implementation of these increases was discussed between the parties on 11 December 2007 at the commencement of formal negotiations.
Early indications appear to indicate that Healthscope has a strong desire to reach an early settlement with ANF. Whilst ANF remains optimistic that an early settlement can be achieved, consent between the parties is predicated achieving a comprehensive agreement that addresses key elements in ANF's log of claims. Such views were unanimously endorsed by Healthscope members at an ANF members meeting held on 12 December 2007.
In other developments, ANF has also commenced negotiations with Epworth Hospital, Ramsay, St Francis Xavier Cabrini Hospital and Vaucluse Hospital. Although only in the early stages of discussions, ANF remains optimistic that the new agreements will deliver improved wages and conditions outcomes consistent with industry standards across Victoria.
