Australian Nursing Federation (Victorian Branch) is run by nurses for nurses. The Branch is governed by the Branch Council which is the organisation's highest policy and decision making body. Branch Councillors are practising registered nurses who are elected by the financial ANF (Victorian Branch) members.

Branch Council comprises:
- Branch President and Vice President
- Branch Secretary and Assistant Secretary (x2)
- Four Executive Members
- Fourteen Branch Councillors
The Branch Councillors and Executive Committee members are elected for a two-year term. Branch Secretary and Assistant Secretary (x2) are elected for a four-year term. The Branch Secretary and Assistant Secretaries are full-time paid officers for their elected term. All other Branch Councillors hold honorary positions.
The Branch Secretary and Assistant Secretaries coordinate and oversee the day-to-day activities and management of the Branch which includes almost 100 staff members. The Branch represents individual members or groups of members before the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, the Nurses Board of Victoria and the courts. The Branch also represents members during negotiations with employers regarding agreements for wages, working conditions and entitlements and during disputes which may include health and safety issues, workloads, shift arrangements and ward changes. The Branch represents members in professional forums on issues such as nurse education, standards of care and promoting the nurse's role in the provision of health services

Clare is an Associate Director of Nursing at a metropolitan public hospital, responsible for clinical standards and documentation for nursing and midwifery. She has been nursing for 20 years. A Job Rep since 1998, Clare was elected to Branch Council in 1999 and has been the Branch President since 2003.

Kate is a nurse working as a Social Outreach Program Assistant at a metropolitan private hospital. Kate has been nursing for 17 years. She has been a Job Rep since 2000 and joined Branch Council in 2002 and the Branch Executive in 2003.

Kate is a Clinical Nurse Consultant/Project Officer in aged care in the public sector. She has been nursing for 16 years. Kate has been a Job Rep since 1996, joined Branch Council in 2007 and was elected to the Executive Committee in 2007.

Margaret is a Clinical Midwifery Specialist at a major regional health service. Margaret has been nursing for more than 30 years. She has been a Job Rep since 2001 and was first elected to Branch Council in 2002 and joined Branch Executive in 2008.

Michelle, a Division 2 registered nurse, has been nursing for 11 years and works in a major regional hospital's medical palliative care unit. A Job Rep since 1999, Michelle previously served on Branch Council from 2003 to 2005 and was elected again in 2007.

Lisa is a Nurse Unit Manager of a maternity unit at a Melbourne private hospital. She has been nursing for 30 years and has worked in the private sector for 21 years. She been a Job Rep in the private sector since 1994 and was elected to Branch Council in 2009.
