Branch Council

Australian Nursing Federation (Victorian Branch) is run by nurses for nurses. The Branch is governed by the Branch Council which is the organisation's highest policy and decision making body. Branch Councillors are practising registered nurses and midwives and enrolled nurses who are elected by the financial ANF (Victorian Branch) members.

 

Branch Council comprises:

  • Branch President and Vice President
  • Branch Secretary and Assistant Secretary (x2)
  • Four Executive Members
  • Fourteen Branch Councillors

The Branch Councillors and Executive Committee members are elected for a two-year term. Branch Secretary and Assistant Secretary (x2) are elected for a four-year term. The Branch Secretary and Assistant Secretaries are full-time paid officers for their elected term. All other Branch Councillors hold honorary positions.

The Branch Secretary and Assistant Secretaries coordinate and oversee the day-to-day activities and management of the Branch which includes almost 100 staff members. The Branch represents individual members or groups of members before the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, the Nurses Board of Victoria and the courts. The Branch also represents members during negotiations with employers regarding agreements for wages, working conditions and entitlements and during disputes which may include health and safety issues, workloads, shift arrangements and ward changes. The Branch represents members in professional forums on issues such as nurse education, standards of care and promoting the nurse's role in the provision of health services.

 Secretary, Lisa Fitzpatrick

Lisa trained at Prince Henry's Hospital in 1980 and became a Job Rep in 1982. She was Branch President from 1990 to 1996 while working at as a Diabetes Educator at Prince Henry's and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital. Lisa joined the Branch as Projects/ Recruitment Officer in 1997 and became an Organiser in 1998. She was first elected Branch Secretary in 2001.

 

 Assistant Secretary, Paul Gilbert

Paul undertook his nursing education in Bendigo in the mid 1980s and has nursed in Bendigo and Queensland. He became an ANF Job Rep in 1989 and joined ANF (Vic Branch) as an Organiser in 1991, initially in Bendigo, then Geelong before taking up the Gippsland area in 1996. In 2000 Paul became an Industrial Officer at the Branch and in 2005 he was appointed to the Senior Industrial Officer position. This is Paul's first elected official position, his four-year term began on 30 November 2009.

 Assistant Secretary, Pip Carew

Pip graduated as a registered nurse in 1981 and has worked in public and private hospitals, day surgery, neurosurgery, aged care and family planning . She became an ANF Job Rep in 1999 when she was working at a private hospital. She was appointed to ANF (Vic Branch) Council the following year. Pip joined the ANF (Vic Branch) as an Information Officer in 2001 before taking on an Organiser role. Pip has represented and organised nurses and midwives at Cabrini Health, Austin Health and Southern Health, private aged care facilities, maternal and child health centres and Forensicare. Pip was elected to the position in May 2010.

President - Maree Burgess

Maree Burgess has been nursing for more than 30 years in a range of settings including hospital, community and local government. A maternal and child health nurse. Maree is an ANF Job Rep and joined the Branch Council in 2008.

  Vice President - Lyn Hedges

Lyn is an Associate Nurse Unit Manager at a regional hospital and  also a relieving Aged Care Assessment Service and Community Aged Care Package officer.  She has been nursing for more than 30 years. Lyn has been a Job Rep since 1999 and joined Branch Council in 2007.  

Leanne BoaseExecutive Committee Member -
Leanne Boase 

Leanne is a Nurse Practitioner working in the public sector. She has been nursing for 14 years and has a background in emergency and rural nursing. A Job Rep since 2001, Leanne was elected to Branch Council in 2009 and joine3d Branch Executive in 2010.

Margaret Crosby

Margaret is a Clinical Midwifery Specialist at a major regional health service. Margaret has been nursing for more than 30 years. She has been a Job Rep since 2001 and was first elected to Branch Council in 2002 and joined Branch Executive in 2008.

Catie Bortolot

Catie is a registered nurse and midwife and a women's health nurse practitioner at a major metropolitan hospital.  She has been nursing for more than 20 years. Catie was a Job Rep from 1993-1995 and since 1998. She joined Branch Council in 2004 and Branch Executive in 2010.

Rachel is a Clinical Nurse Specialist on a reconstructive plastics ward at a Melbourne public hopsital. She has been nursing since 2006. A Job Rep and a Health and Safety Rep since 2008, Rachel was elected to Branch Council in 2009 and joined Branch Executive in 2011.

Lisa auchettl

Lisa Auchettl

Lisa is a Nurse Unit Manager of a maternity unit at a Melbourne private hospital. She has been nursing for 30 years and has worked in the private sector for 21 years. She been a Job Rep in the private sector since 1994 and was elected to Branch Council in 2009.

Michael Belleville

Michael has been a registered nurse for 13 years. Michael is currently employed as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager/ Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 3 at a major public hospital. He has been a job representative since 2002.

 

 Mandy Maberly

Mandy is a Clinical Education Co-ordinator at a major outer metropolitan hospital. She has been nursing for nearly 30 years. Mandy has been a member of Branch Council since

 Marian Macdonald

Marian is an Associate Nurse Unit Manager on a rapid assessment unit in a major metropolitan outer hospital. She has been nursing for almost 10 years.  Marian has been a Job Rep since 2003 and was elected to Branch Council in 2007.

Sheryn MartinSheryn Martin

Sheryn is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in a post anaesthetic care unit at a private hospital. She has been nursing for over 25 years. Sheryn has been a Job Rep since 2007 and has was elected to Branch Council ion 2009.

Shay MorrisseyShay Morrissey  

Shay is a Nurse Manager at a major Melbourne public hospital. She has been nursing for 16 years.  She has been a Job Rep since 2007 and an active union member in both NSW and Victoria while nursing in those states. Shay was elected to Branch Counci in 2009.

Tim O'BrienTim O'Brien 

Tim is a CNS at a major regional public hospital where he works in Paediatrics. An enrolled nurse for 10 years, Tim obtained his Diploma of Nursing in 2000. He has been a Job Rep since 2004 and was elected to Branch Council in 2009.

Lori-anne Sharp

Lori-anne has been nursing for over 15 years and is currently working with the homeless persons program. Lori-anne has been a Job Rep since 2001 and was first elected to Branch Council in 2004.
